[dropcap]A[/dropcap]nonymous Portraits comprises a group of informal images painted in my Easthampton studio in 2007-08. The anonymous nature of the portraits stemmed from the need to have a range of sitters for this project. The subject matter, as the title implies, is of characters selected for their visual appeal, charisma, and intrigue who are mostly unknown to me.
The work takes on a new dimension with the interpretation of the subject matter being freed from the constricts of a formal portrait.
